What is Educational Passages?

This is the first episode of the Educational Passages podcast called “What is Educational Passages?”. 

In this episode, Cassie is joined by Thomas to talk about the Educational Passages program. Cassie discusses the program’s mission, and how it fosters important connections that help develop a further understanding of the ocean.

• There was some talk about the process of getting started (https://educationalpassages.org/start/) and what students can learn from following the path of the miniboats, including the launching and relaunching of boats.
• Cassie explains that along with the GPS, you can now add sensors to the boats that include temperature (water and air), and pitch sensors. An example of a miniboat currently at sea with these sensors is the Square Mile (https://educationalpassages.org/boats/squaremile/) miniboat.
• Maker Buoy Shop (https://www.makerbuoy.com/) was mentioned when discussing the sensor packs that can be added to a miniboat.
• Cassie talks about the mini boat West (https://educationalpassages.org/boats/west/) from Maine that had several relaunches.
• Cassie mentions Rye Riptides (https://educationalpassages.org/boats/rye-riptides/) miniboat that recently landed in Norway. 
• Thomas talks about the Raven KASTER (https://educationalpassages.org/boats/raven-kaster/) miniboat, which was launched by his students in November 2018.
